In order to obtain the proper training and degree to work in the field, anyone who wants to be a pharmacist must attend a pharmacist school. To be admitted to a school you must have a high school diploma, have completed at least two years of undergraduate study at a college or university and pass a written admittance test. Pharmacist schools provide four-year programs of study to earn the PharmD. Those who declare their intent to study pharmacy early can complete their pharmacist schooling in about six years, by ensuring that their undergraduate credit compliment the pharmacy program. Declaring a pharmacy major late in your undergraduate career will likely mean that it will take you a full eight years to each both your bachelors degree and finish you school for pharmacist.

Pharmacist technician school
At a pharmacist technician school, you will receive training in many of the same areas as a pharmacist, including accepting prescriptions, dispensing drugs and maintaining patient files. Both traditional and online options for pharmacist technician school are also available. You must be licensed and registered with your state pharmaceutical board to work as a pharmacist technician. You will also need to complete continuing education courses in order to renew your license every two years. Because the level of training and expertise is lower than that of a pharmacist, the pharmacist technician will earn comparably less. While an average pharmacist salary is about $100,000 per year, a pharmacist technician makes somewhat less at $20,000 to $40,000 annually depending on the type of pharmacist school you attended and whether you work in a retail drug store, hospital or other workplace.
